Laboratory

Development project division is a newly establish division at the end of year 2016. The main purpose of the division is to planning and implementing the development projects of the institute. Development projects are conducted to disseminate the appropriate new and existing post-harvest technologies of agricultural produce to solve the problems in supply and value chains and to uplift the living standard of stakeholders. The projects are implemented mainly with the collaboration of extension and research divisions.

Achievements 2017

The development project division project directly conducted four projects funded by the Ministry of Agriculture,

  • Improvement of supply and value chain management practices of Banana - 12 Banana handling units have been established in Rajaganaya banana processing zone in Anuradhapura district.

  • Improvement of supply and value chain management practices of Papaya - 12 Papaya handling units have been established in Thalakolawewa papaya processing zone in Anuradhapura district.

  • Improvement of supply and value chain management practices of Guava - 27 Guava handling units have been established in Ipalogama and Puliyankulama processing zones in Anuradhapura district.

  • Management of supply and value chain of agricultural produces in Sri Lanka - To redefine the existing agriculture supply chain, island wide crop production data and weight losses of major fruits and vegetables were gathered.

Projects currently carrying out

  • Improvement of supply and value chain management practices of Banana - Establishing 50 Banana handling units in Kandy, Jaffna, Rathnapura, Hambanthota, Kegalle and Moneragala districts.

  • Improvement of supply and value chain management practices of Papaya - Establishing 40 Papaya handling units in Puttlam, Hambanthota, Matale and Kurunegala districts

  • Improvement of supply and value chain management practices of Guava - Establishing 10 Guava handling units in Puttlam district.

  • Management of supply and value chain of agricultural produces in Sri Lanka - Conducting a pilot project in Anuradhapura, Kurunegala and Nuwaraeliya districts to establish proper agriculture supply chain.
